Symposium: Improv in Therapy
For the first time, the improv-theatre »Die Gorillas« is holding an international symposium on the topic »Improv in Therapy«. In lectures and workshops with Dr. Assael Romanelli, Dipl.-Psych. Dörte Foertsch, Randy Dixon and the Gorillas Barbara Klehr und Regina Fabian the symposium will show how methods of improvisation can be used in therapy and therapeutic training.
With the discussion forums on Sunday we want to initiate a continuous international exchange about existing offers, projects and studies. We also want to provide a forum for new ideas that develop the connection between impro in therapy.
The symposium is adressed to professional therapists, with and without experience in improv theatre.
All lectures and workshops are in English and/or German.

Workshop 1 - The Ninja Therapist: Improvisation skills for the (daring) clinician

This workshop presents an original typology of improvisational skills/tendencies that has been taught to therapists for several years, enabling them to improve their improvisatory skills and increase co-creation, vitality and play in their psychotherapeutic work. Here is an introductory article about this technique, aimed at improvisers.

Workshop 2 - Rubbing the lamp: Activating Image Through Improv

At the heart of the matter, we are storytellers. Almost everything we take in, and offer to others is in story form. We tell ourselves inner stories that help us cope, survive and recover from our encounters with the world. There is a great deal of knowledge, insight, and wisdom contained in these images. The tools of improvisation can be used to unlock inner meanings, revelations, and details contained in the images from the stories we tell others and ourselves. We will explore through activities and learn through dialogue what lies within them. There is a genie inside our stories and images wanting to get out of the bottle. Let’s rub the lamp together and see how our wishes are granted.
One year of improv experience necessary to participate.
