»Celebrate Improv« is the festival's motto, and tonight's players will do exactly that. They will share with the audience the things, people, experiences and adventures they love - in life and on the improv stage. This serves as inspiration for the entire cast. A tribute, and exploration of all the things we have come to love about performing this unique art form. Improv can take us anywhere from silly to surreal and everywhere in between.

The stage is an imaginary border between sleep and wakefulness, where pictures appear and fade. Stories are born and developed, and the audience gets a peek in at a visual fantasy led by charismatic storytelling. A dream like show where the hidden subconscious comes alive on stage. One of the most successful and popular formats of our festival is Back! In the Improvision Song Contest, you, the audience decide what will be sung, and of course which country will win the most points for its spontaneously improvised song. Five singers from five countries compete with each other while performing hip hop or blues, an aria or heavy metal, reggae or anything. Who sings the most beautifully? Who writes the most quick-witted lyrics? Who stirs the hearts the most? And our twelve points go to...

A photo from one’s own backyard, an unfamiliar song with personal sentimental value, a poem, an old worn out teddy bear. Each of the festival participants will bring something from their hometown. Together with the audience, they discover how great, how important, how magnificent all these little things actually are.

It begins with a warm welcome and a conversation. The performers interact with the audience and gather ingredients about what’s on their minds. How they have coped over the last year or so, and what makes them happy right now. Our performers, like chefs, take these ingredients and using a variety of improvisation skills, turn them into a one of a kind show that will never be seen again. The evening will be fun, thoughtful, playful, and energetic. If you want to share the meal, you need to be at the table.

In the last few years the word distance was filled with many new meanings, references, thoughts, emotions and events. Social distancing was for some an act of responsability, for some it was a painful loss, for some it was a bizzare relief. Certain places, people and relationships in our lives became very far away, with some we found new types of closeness. In this big restructing of society and general chaos of life, what can we do? We dance! We dance over and around it and within it, we sweat, we move, we live! And the next step might emerge from there.

When improvisers with different mother tongues meet on stage, they often use English as the basis of communication. However there are so many other ways of meeting and communicating that we neglect. Non-verbally, an invented language, or a foreign language that one has only a rudimentary command of just to name a few. Come share in an evening exploring communication playfully between all.

Everyone is the sum of their experiences. These experiences change and define us. Sometimes hold us back. Some push us forward. Lets fill the theatre with these life events and create special scenes, stories and songs to explore and celebrate the adventures that brought us here to this moment.

Isn’t it a shame that there is no museum about everything? Now finally there is! In our museum the audience chooses the theme and the cast brings it to life. It could be a museum of break ups, a museum of graduations, a museum of family vacations. Our statues will tell you the stories behind the art and give you the whole experience. The only museum that asks you what you would like to see is here!

A sofa and relationships. Polyamorous, fixed, monogamous, open, casual or committed. Nele Kießling's show pairs up the festival cast and sends them all to couples therapy. Couples that couldn't be more different speak their minds and try to build bridges. Between misunderstanding and love, between the needs and everyday shit.

Felipe gives an insight into improvised, physical, non-verbal acting on stage. »Pepe« is - and this can be said without exaggeration - a master of his craft. He is a worldwide sought-after player and teacher, not only for this kind of improvisation.

As part of our international festival IMPRO, great improvisers from all over the world come here to teach you the art of improvisation. Randy Dixon is a highly experienced improv teacher and has long studied the value of storytelling in context of illness and crisis. In this workshop, he will share exercises on emotion and storytelling. These exercises can encourage the exploration of alternative behaviors in a therapeutic process, as well as the development of new narratives. Within the workshop we will also talk about possible applications of the different exercises. In addition to the practical part, the workshop will also include a session of sharing current experiences with the use of Improv in therapeutic context.

The workshop is aimed at therapists and people who assist people in crisis. Participants are expected to have basic knowledge and initial experience in Impro.

We are opening The Way Through workshop to passive participation. We would like to give everyone who is interested in Randy's way of working the opportunity to participate in the workshop as a spectator and co-thinker: you observe the practice and actively participate in the reflection talks and the final exchange!
The workshop is aimed at therapists and people who assist people in crisis. Basic knowledge and first experiences in impro are required.

As always, the last evening of the festival belongs to you, the audience. A special tradition at the festival where you have the opportunity to improvise with some of our guest performers here from all over the world. A chance for you to try improv or perform a scene with one of your favourite improvisers.
